Guide to Install SSL on cPanel Server

Case 1 – When you don’t purchase a digital certificate from the provider. In such an instance, you have to need a private key and CSR. Here are the steps to create a Private Key & CSR.

Steps to Create Private Key

Step 1 – Sign-in to the cPanel account.

Step 2 – Go to the “Security” section and opt for “SSL/TLS” from the drop-down menu.

Step 3 – Now, you have to click on Private Key or KEY.

Step 4 – Afterward, click on generate your private key.

Step 5 – You need to input a description under the Description Box. As well as, make sure the key size of 2048 bits.

Step 6 – Press Generate for cPanel to create key. On the screen, the key will appear.

Steps to Create Certificate Signing Request

Step 1 – After creating a Private Key, you need to click on SSL/TLS again.

Step 2 – Now, opt for the Select Certificate Signing Requests from the drop-down menu.

Step 3 – Now, click on Generate / View / Delete SSL Certificate Signing Request to proceed further.

Step 4 – Enter the description.

Step 5 – Afterward, select the domain that requires SSL security under the Domains text box. Make sure to choose the correct domain name.

Step 6 – Now, you have to enter the following details of the CSR page. Moreover, click on Generate.

Step 7 – In a moment, the CSR gets created and displayed on the screen.

Step 8 – At last, copy the CSR and enter it into the SSL certificate provider in order to get the certificate.

Case 2 – If you already take the SSL certificate server from NetForChoice along with the private key and CSR. Here, you need to install the private key via. cPanel.

Steps to Install Private Key Using cPanel

Step 1 – Open your cPanel account and go to the Security option

Step 2 – Now, navigate to Private Key section and click on Generate / View / Upload / Delete Your Private keys.

Step 3 – Time to select Upload a New Private Key.

Step 4 – Once the key is uploaded, click on Go Back.

Step 5 – Now, your certificate is ready to be installed and enabled for your website.

Installation & Activation of SSL Certificate

It is the last step where you need to install and enable an SSL certificate for your website. Follow the below steps to install the digital security certificate.

Step 1 – Click on Generate/View/Upload/Delete SSL certificates from the SSL/TLS page.

Step 2 – Here, you can upload a new certificate by pasting the certificate’s text or uploading the .crt file from your system.

Step 3 – Go back to the SSL/TLS page and click on Manage SSL sites.

Step 4 – Upload the .crt file from your system for cPanel.
